SOHAIL A. RAHMAN – NEWSANCHOR / CORRESPONDENT
 A fluent speaker of five South Asian languages, award-winning journalist Sohail (So) Rahman has been presenting and reporting television news for 17 years at some of the top broadcasting stations in the world, including Granada, ITV, BBC, Channel 4 and CNN.
In addition to being one of Al Jazeera English’s main presenters, Sohail is also the South Asia Correspondent. He is one of a few international correspondents who has access and reported from the troubled tribal areas of North West Pakistan, having reported exclusively on the militants in Swat and in areas bordering Afghanistan. He has also broken many of the top news stories in Bangladesh, India and Pakistan in 2007 and 2008, including Bangladesh’s State of Emergency and cancellation of Parliamentary Elections, the removal of Pakistan’s Chief Justice and the siege of the Red Mosque in Islamabad.
Sohail was the only international news anchor and correspondent present in Pakistan during the assassination and aftermath of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in December 2007. He broadcast live continuously on Al Jazeera English for the first 24 hours as the country plunged into civil chaos with riots breaking out as a result of her murder. His live reports were carried on television and radio by news partners in the USA, Australia and New Zealand.
Prior to joining Al Jazeera English, Sohail made his mark as a reporter with international expertise in South Asia and the Middle East during the September 11th attacks in the United States. He was the first ITV reporter to record the reaction inside Pakistan and throughout the region.
Sohail was the first British Muslim man in the UK to present the ITV National news and the ITV Granada regional news. In 2003, he won the Royal Television Society’s prestigious Best Television Presenter Award. For more information:
